COFELY gears up for fire station support

Facilities and energy management provider COFELY is to provide a comprehensive range of soft and technical support services to 10 fire stations in Staffordshire for a period of 25 years, following the financial closure of the £46m Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue PFI project.

The project, operated by the Fire Support consortium, involves the construction of seven fire stations on existing fire station sites, and the construction of a further three stations on new sites. From the early design stages, COFELY has worked closely with the Fire Support team to ensure that the design of the buildings is closely aligned to the ongoing facilities and energy management requirements.

The buildings will be constructed by Stepnell Ltd and Thomas Vale Construction, with majority (85%) finance from Bilfinger Berger Project Investments. On completion, COFELY will deliver cleaning and waste management, grounds maintenance, security and technical life cycle maintenance on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The first of the new stations, at Rising Brook in Stafford, is due to open in summer 2010, with the others following in phases through to December 2011.
